Elections BC reported that Francesco Aquilini, the chief financial backer of the Garibaldi at Squamish Resort Proposal, has donated over $1,000,000 to the BC Liberals and Christy Clark since 2005.  Are there implications to a political donation of this magnitude? We don't know. We don't know to what extent the B.C. cabinet or the premier can exert influence on say, the Environment Assessment Office, to approve an environmental assessment certificate for a project under...

The Historic Singing Pass Trail existed well before the Whistler Blackcomb Ski Resort.  The battle to maintain access to this trail began almost 50 years ago in 1968.  Some of those original documents are posted on this site (see the documents section). After a major road slump in 1997 made the original access road impassable, access has yet to be restored.  Despite several highly viable options being available, commercial and industrial interests have presented a myriad...

Garibaldi Park - A Basic Description from Wikipedia Garibaldi Provincial Park, also called Garibaldi Park, is a wilderness park located in British Columbia, Canada, about 70 kilometres (43.5 mi) north of Vancouver. The park is located to the east of the Sea to Sky Highway between Squamish and Whistler and covers an area of over 1,950 square kilometres (753 sq mi). It has long been recognised that logging roads in the Mamquam Valley have been one of the important access points for Pinecone-Burke Park.  The proposed Darling Lake Hertitage Trail has the potential to serve as a major access point Pinecone-Burke Park.

The Singing Pass Trail Access Fiasco began in the late 1960's.  In 1968, the civilian park founders demanded that the Government at the time ensure access to the Singing Pass Trail during a time when Gairblaid Lifts Ltd (Whistler Blackcomb) were undertaking their a major expansion.  Almost 50 years later, access to the traditional trailhead has yet to be secured/restored despite the efforts of multiple organisations.  B.C. Parks has been all-but silent in the face of this...

Garibaldi Park 2020 proposes two additions to be made to Garibaldi Park at the time of the new master plan.  These additions will serve to protect important Mountain Goat habitat.  Furthermore, being that at least six Boundary Adjustments have deleted large amounts of land from Garibaldi Park, it is long overdue to begin replacing what has been lost/taken away. Our proposed additions are as follows (internal links): Brohm Ridge...

The Creation of BC Parks

The following document from 1955 predates the creation of BC Parks and discusses the need for a separate agency to manage Garibaldi Park separate from the Ministry of Forests and Lands.  This letter is significant in that it lays out the park founders's expectation for this new agency (which would become BC Parks).  On Page 4, the founders discuss their hopes with regards to a trail network for Garibaldi Park.  It is clear upon inspection of this document that the current BC...

The following are documents from 1915- 1925 from the park founders petitioning the BC Government for the creation of Garibaldi Park (over 40 years before the creation of BC Parks).  Apparantly the words of the founders of Garibaldi Provincial Park in 1915 "...preserved unimpaired for the instruction and recreation of the people of Western Canada." have been long forgotten by the B.C. Parks and the B.C. Government.  B.C. Park's current policy of restricting public access to the park...
